My favorite picture, Meagan tells her judge that she has never performed a 225# deadlift before and without any hesitation, tells him that she was going to get one rep when the clock started.
Many of you have expressed a big interest in how our lone female competitor, Meagan M., did in this past weekend’s South Central Regional Competition. So to get you all on the same page with this recap, make sure you know the Regional Workouts she fought through.
Workout 1 – 4:23 (15th place) – With the first set of 21 reps, Meagan was the last one to finish the deadlifts in her heat but was the 2nd off the wall for the HSPU. Â She finished 3rd in her heat.
Workout 2 – 17:15 (27th place) – The one legged squats were a breeze but the body weight hang cleans became heavy really quick.
Workout 3 – 10:34 (22nd place) – She completed 16 reps of the 1 arm snatches. This event ended the competition for 11 of the 33 women competing over the weekend because they could not complete a minimum number of repetitions with both arms.
Workout 4 – 23:33 (15th place) – The volume of this workout was insane. Meagan kept pace with the pack with her butterfly pullups and then made big final push with the OH Squats to edge out 2 of her closest rivals in the same heat moving her up to 18th place overall.
Workout 5 – 115.12 (14th place) – 105# easy, 115# easier, 125# wasn’t happening. Megan dropped the barbell and moved on to the tie breaker double unders. Her quick transfer to the double under’s put her ahead of 4 other females at the same weight and moved her into 17th place overall. This was most significant because only the top 18 females moved on to the final workout.
Workout 6 – 20:20 (18th place) – The time and 18th place don’t do give justice for how Meagan performed during this workout. Meagan was faced with two difficult tasks, 1) she had never before performed a 225# deadlift and 2) had to accept the fact that she was mathematically out of contention.  This was all pride, no quitting allowed.  The first part of this workout called for 3 rounds of 7 reps at 225#… Meagan attempted several reps without success but after about 4 minutes and some extra screaming by her fans, she was able to pull it from the ground to complete 1 repetition and set a new deadlift PR! She decided to call it a day at this point and proudly cheered on her fellow athletes as they labored through this nasty workout. We should  also note that no other female was able to complete this workout in it’s entirety.
Again we are all very proud of Meagan and her performance this past weekend. We look forward to having even more competitors and possibly a team next year!
