Pre-Game

Now that we understand the importance of a good Warm-Up how about your pre-competition psych out? This weekend we have a small army of P3 warriors competing at Oktoberfest Obliteration. Do you have any last words of advise for our army competing tomorrow?

Do you have any special pre-game traditions, dances, songs that get you in the mood to go? Do you need a special playlist to keep the intensity up as you trudge through a long WOD?

I will go first and reveal my cheesy pre competition routine…I practice all the heavy lifts or skills that I will have to do on comp day, usually as soon as the wods are released. I buy all my food and portion it out for the day. I never carpool BC it would subject any carpooler with me to the screaming sounds of the band limp bizkit, and I always watch the karate kid and Rocky 4 the night before. And tall socks are a must. Then its go time.

That is awesome. I had never really paid attention until this week how focused you got. I eat the same thing pre-race and study the route so I know every turn, hill etc. I obsess over prior year results and make a goal and stretch goal for time and age group result. At the race I cue up the theme to Rocky and trash talk myself. Then it is go time!

  3. Haley says:

I love it Margarita. Rocky themes are the best, but rocky 4 is my favorite when he trains in the snow to fight the Russian.
I know Mike loves ”mama said knock you out” which is also a good choice pre competiton and yes its on my iPod.
Tomorrow we all need to have the ”Robert R. Pre 500 lb deadlift” gameface on!

Good luck you guys!! Wish I could be there with y’all !!

Sometimes you gotta say obscenities to the bar.
Sometimes you gotta laugh at the bar and stay loose.

But every time, do your best, trust yourself, don’t stop, and leave it all out there …
Just like Rocky training in the snow :)

Before synchronized swimming meets there was listening to Pink Floyd to calm my nerves and lots of teeth brushing because I felt like it was easier to suck in that precious air when my teeth were clean….for marathons it was coconut milk ice cream for dinner and made-from-scratch vegan gluten-free pancakes with raspberry sauce for breakfast…I haven’t figured out anything for CrossFit yet…

  6. Anthony H says:

Mary – I like the teeth brushing idea. I’m gonna try that next time we do Fran so I can breathe more efficiently :D

I crank up some Rage Against the Machine…then I am ready to trash talk to myself when I feel like stopping and swear at the bar!
