It’s not working?

Being almost 4 complete weeks into the Whole Life Challenge it has to be extremely frustrating to hear that some of our athletes have already experienced some huge successes, while you may not have noticed any yet. Several of our athletes are building on double digit weight losses, others have had the best sleep in years, clothes are fitting better (in some cases new wardrobes) and others are simply waking up in the morning fresh, hydrated and energized to attack the day.

So what else besides “Be patient” do I have to say to those of you that haven’t noticed any changes yet? I would highly advise you take a moment to re-evaluate your intentions, goals, expectations and ensure all of your efforts are geared to get you where you want to be.

For example, I personally have a serious weight loss goal for this 8 week challenge. So beyond keeping up with my workout time in the gym, I’ve added in some endurance training each week. I started out by performing a 10 minute run on my off days and have built upon that to include a 5k run each week. This week I hope to get two 5k runs assuming the weather holds out. I’ve also added in a few extra minutes on the rowing machine. By making these simple changes to my workout routine, I’ve been able to have great success in my weight loss goal.

“And as we’ve mentioned before, mediocre efforts yield mediocre results.”
Six Reasons Why the Whole30 Didn’t Work For You. (Please note, that this article relates specifically to the Whole 30, very different than the Whole Life Challenge, but still applies to us in many ways)

i’ve been working toward a double body weight deadlift for almost a year.. the last 4 weeks i’ve been deadlifting on my own 1-2x/week .. 50-50 shot i’ll be there in 4 more weeks, but i’ll at least have made some progress.. I’m going scale-free for 8 weeks, but being a couple pounds down at the end would mean taking a little weight off the bar…maybe i’ll also cut all of my hair off

thats the plan.. but if the scale is the same, i’m falling back on the haircut plan..

    and go corinne!

I’ve been having the same “get lighter or get stronger” thing with pullups. Summer work travel just killed my weight loss (not an excuse! just an explanation). But losing a bit of that booty of mine will make those pullups easier. :-)

I’ve had weight loss that I didn’t want, so my plan has been to increase the strength work to turn that undesirable weight (fat) loss into gained muscle.
Now the weight loss has tapered off and I am setting PR’s every day in our skill/strength part of workouts. I think this means success… and I have specific goals I’d like to accomplish by week 8…

John, could we do baseline again shortly after the 8 weeks end? Also, please post when it’s upcoming so I don’t miss it!

  5. Thanks for sharing our article! Just to make sure your members know, the Whole Life Challenge is totally unrelated to the Whole30 – they sound a lot alike, but it’s not our program, and not as strict in its rules. (It’s a common source of confusion.)

Keep up the great work, all – ANY effort designed to make yourself healthier is worth pursuing with 100% dedication.

    Best,
    Melissa

Melissa – We know the names are very similar, but are definitely aware of the differences. As a gym we have taken on the Whole30 on several different occasions.

I personally just liked your article so much and the fact that it is transferable to so many other aspects beyond just the Whole30 that I wanted to share it with our audience. But I’ve gone ahead and put in an edit to ensure people know that it is different.

Weight was my first goal, and it has been successful. Endurance would be second, followed by strenght. I am just going to “keep the faith” for the next four weeks and see where it gets me. Did all 3 of the 400′s this morning, it has been awhile!

I am using this 8 week “contest” to kick start a signifcant effort for sustained weight loss that will hopefully lead (and is part and partial to improvement in my overall fitness level and increased performance at my P3 workouts. My 8 week goal was 30lbs to lose and I’m 18lbs into it halfway through, so hopefully realistic to achieve the 30lb. Beyond that I have another 30lbs to go (read that to mean I started off WAY TOO FAT). I’m enjoying the hell out of this lifestyle change – its certainly not easy every day, but i’ve found even through this that you don’t need to be perfect, you just have to be good most of the time and results will be achieved.

Anyway, I usually don’t preach on here, but thought I would share the perspective of someone starting from the bottom of the fitness chain!
