Cheat yourself or Push yourself. Lets see why you’re really here…

Not for time? How hard did you push yourself when there was no clock running? No whiteboard full of names to compare yourself against and no website spreadsheet with names listed in order of finishing times and weights used. No set RX’d weights?! Did you use a KB that would challenge your abilities? Did you give up on double unders (or even try them) and did singles because it was easier? Did you hold yourself to a set standard on your K2E? I know all of you can’t touch your knees to your elbows just yet but did you bring them up to the same point every time? Did you skip a round of burpees because you thought no one was looking when you slipped off the bar or messed up with the jump rope? The challenge is with yourself and only benefits you.

David Tannery’s daily challenge: 250 – 20# Weight Vest Pullups

Chuckie demonstrates how to tire yourself out extremely fast while performing double unders by pulling his knees to his chest…

Did I challenge myself? I’m experiencing a low motivational ebb right now but I showed up anyway. I did the warmup at a brisk pace. I went for less weight on my snatches so that I could work on my form rather than relying on luck to give me a big lift. My K2E’s were about 95% clean and doing them that way cost me time and dozens of burpees. I picked a light KB and got through my swings in three, sweaty sets. I skipped the jump rope because I have as much trouble with singles as many have with doubles. The hour was up and I didn’t have the liberty to spend the rest of the day doing burpees so I got the heck outta Dodge City. All in all, this workout looked like a challenge from where I was sweating.

Horrifying, with that said the workout PUSHED me to a place I didn’t think I could go. I timed out on the workout. The WOD more than accomplished my goal on the board. I went home and put on the blue jeans that scare me the most and reminded myself why I come.

When the easiest (?) part was the KB, I realized I should have stuck with the 26# and not wimped out on the 20# handweight. I learned that I have to push myself and not rely on John to come by and comment. The aspect that made me proud was that even the last 20 K to E were a LOT closer than they’ve ever been in past workouts. Is that progress? In my world, yes.

My butt hurts, quads, hips, knees and shoulders…but the back hurts relatively less…theres progress.(I sound like an old man)

Probably from the 50000000000 singles to get to 100 DU and the ass load of burpees.

I’m pretty d#mn happy with the flexibility increase doin this stuff has given me over the 2 short weeks I’ve been in.

  5. Mac says:

I was going to push myself, but Yogi wouldn’t let me.

  6. Belinda says:

I hurt everywhere. That’s enough said.

  7. David T. says:

I was going for 300 but gripping the bar was becoming an issue…

  8. Stephen says:

David, if you had borrowed my lifting straps, you could have gotten the extra 100. But, that would have been cheating…

  9. Yogi says:

I just didn’t want the old man to hurt himself…..BOOM!

  10. David T. says:

Yogi, you can’t insult a CrossFitter of Mac’s stature like that, ouch!

  11. Mac says:

Go ahead, beat up on the old man! Aren’t there any more Underwood jokes we can make up??

  12. Brian says:

I wanted to push myself, so I went to the 5PM class this time. The noon class is full of old guys. BOOM!

  13. Nic says:

Nothing like cheap shots at old men to cheer me up on this miserable day….Does is say something about me that the old men constantly kick my ass on the WODS??? Naaaa
