For all of you that like to read and hear gossip, this is the latest wrinkle in the CrossFit empire. I almost attended this seminar and know quite a few people who did, the aftermath of these events could mean the loss of a some amazing coaches and resources in the CrossFit community… The Black Box Summit Or How I Got Fired from the CrossFit Nutrition Certification
UPDATE: A response from Coach Glassman:
We run our SME program like a sport team. At each position we want the best man for the job and the best team player. I’ll not explain our disappointment in Robb but you can take him at his word that he has little respect or regard for CrossFit staff, policies, fitness, and nutrition. It was easy to find more qualified and collegial nutrition experts. It’s that simple.
This split was inevitable, and largely of Robb’s choosing through his actions. The Blackbox had little to do with it. Dave Castro had nothing to do with it.
This decision didn’t come easy, but I feel very good about it. It was the right thing to do for the entire community.
I too hope that Robb can continue to be a leader in the CF community. It is entirely up to him.

Sounds like growing pains, which any fast-growing org is going to have. But if CF HQ doesn’t take notice and figure out a way to manage all these divergent views of what CF is/should be, CF could end up splintering into a dozen camps. I have bad visions of the world of martial arts: 20+ brands of CF. That would suck for everyone.
Wow! That’s insane. Obviously Robb’s post is biased, but I can’t believe the public displays of unprofessionalism from Castro. I kinda want to see the videos of the argument.
Like Mac said Crossfit hq needs to address this situation before it gets out of control. This lack of uniformity in among the affiliates could be the beginning of the end, good affiliates like p3 could get lost in the shuffle amongst fly by nights. It’s ashamed that this spat is so public it makes Crossfit look really bad and though each affiliateis it’s own entity the shit will roll down.
I wonder if people can opt out of the nutrition certs? I wonder if they are going to compensate him for what is now lost income? I wonder if he will still be an affiliate? I wonder if people lowal to Robb are going to defect? I should be studying…
Hey thanks for posting that john; that whole situation is a shame, I always thought castro seemed a little tightly wound. Just from the videos, not that I’ve met him. Ditto Nic I should be writing.
I cannot beleive Castro slid by with nothing! He should be let go. He was a representative of CF HQ, and embarassed the company with his very poor choice of words. What does Castro think of Coach Glassman – if he things Everett is a “fat Fu$@” – as he called him at the Summit.
Rob was a great asset to the team.
I agree with Mac – there is going to be 20+ types of crossfit now. Glassman made a mistage. Castro should be gone, not Rob.
I’m late to this discussion but I feel something should be added. Glassman may have his views on Robb’s demeanor, but to say RW has little respect or regard for nutrition is completely out of line. And especially to say that’s at his word? Glassman is showing his hand here, trying far too hard to spin this whole fracas into being Robb’s fault alone.
HQ is making a big mistake here.. not that they directly hurt from losing Robb, but in the fact that many many people, including well-respected affiliates, are viewing a very public confirmation of ugly behavior and personalities they’ve wondered about for some time.
Check out this video release that speaks upon all the recent out cries and ‘fallout’

I saw that.. looks like damage control to me.
I also find it very ironic that they use Rip’s idea of “silly bullshit” in this context. Last I checked he is off the reservation too, and in no small part due to HQ’s (and specifically Castro’s) silly bullshit.
